How prayer times are calculated in Bhutan
Pages for Bhutan use the Muslim World League method: Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon and Isha when the sun is 17° below the horizon. Times are shown in local time (UTC+6). In the capital Thimphu, Fajr is around 3:34 AM and Maghrib 7:00 PM around 21 June, while around 21 December Fajr comes at 5:24 AM and Maghrib at 5:11 PM. Daylight there ranges from 10 h 24 min to 13 h 53 min.
Our cities in Bhutan stretch from Samtse in the west to Tashigang in the east, and from Gasa in the north to Samdrup Jongkhar in the south. Because of this spread, the sun reaches its zenith in Tashigang about 10 minutes before Samtse, even though the clock is the same everywhere. Day length also varies between north and south, most of all in summer and winter, so the timetable of Thimphu cannot replace that of your own city.
