Prayer times by region in Japan

Our pages in Japan are organised in 47 regions. Choose your region, then your city: each page has its own coordinates, so the times differ by a few minutes from one place to the next, from east to west and from north to south.

How prayer times are calculated in Japan

Pages for Japan use the Muslim World League method: Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon and Isha when the sun is 17° below the horizon. Times are shown in local time (UTC+9). In the capital Tokyo, Fajr is about 2:37 AM and Maghrib 7:00 PM around 21 June, while around 21 December Fajr comes at 5:15 AM and Maghrib at 4:31 PM. Daylight there ranges from 9 h 45 min to 14 h 35 min.

Our cities in Japan stretch from Ishigaki in the west to Nemuro in the east, and from Wakkanai in the north to Ishigaki in the south. Because of this spread, the sun reaches its zenith in Nemuro about 86 minutes before Ishigaki, even though the clock is the same everywhere. Day length also differs between north and south, most of all in summer and winter, so the timetable of Tokyo cannot replace that of your own city.
