How prayer times are calculated in Brazil
Times for Brazil use the Muslim World League method: Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon and Isha when the sun is 17° below the horizon. Times are shown in the local time of each city (UTC−3; UTC−4; UTC−5). In the capital Brasília, Fajr is about 4:17 AM and Maghrib 6:42 PM around 21 December, whereas around 21 June Fajr comes at 5:21 AM and Maghrib at 5:49 PM. Daylight there ranges from 11 h 11 min to 13 h 04 min.
Our cities in Brazil stretch from Mâncio Lima in the west to Pitimbu in the east, and from Pacaraima in the north to Santa Vitória do Palmar in the south. With such a distance, the sun reaches its zenith in Pitimbu about 152 minutes before Mâncio Lima, which is one reason the country uses several time zones. Day length also differs between north and south, especially in summer and winter, so the timetable of Brasília cannot replace that of your own city.
