How prayer times are calculated in Fiji

Times for Fiji use the Muslim World League method: Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon and Isha when the sun is 17° below the horizon. Times are shown in local time (UTC+12). In the capital Suva, Fajr is about 4:05 AM and Maghrib 6:41 PM around 21 December, whereas around 21 June Fajr comes at 5:19 AM and Maghrib at 5:39 PM. Daylight there ranges from 11 h 03 min to 13 h 13 min.

Our cities in Fiji stretch from Ahau in the west to Labasa in the east, and from Ahau in the north to Sigatoka in the south. With such a distance, the sun reaches its zenith in Labasa about 9 minutes before Ahau, even though the clock is the same everywhere. Day length also varies between north and south, most of all in summer and winter, so the timetable of Suva is no substitute for that of your own city.
