Prayer times by region in Iceland
Our pages in Iceland are organised in 8 regions. Choose your region, then your city: each page has its own coordinates, so the times differ by a few minutes between cities, from east to west and north to south.
How prayer times are calculated in Iceland
Times for Iceland use the Muslim World League method: Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon and Isha when the sun is 17° below the horizon. Times are shown in local time (UTC). In the capital Reykjavik, Fajr is around 2:04 AM and Maghrib 12:03 AM around 21 June, whereas around 21 December Fajr comes at 7:53 AM and Maghrib at 3:29 PM. Daylight there ranges from 4 h 08 min to 21 h 08 min.
Our cities in Iceland stretch from Isafjordur in the west to Egilsstaðir in the east, and from Isafjordur in the north to Selfoss in the south. With such a distance, the sun reaches its zenith in Egilsstaðir about 35 minutes before Isafjordur, even though the clock is the same everywhere. Day length also varies between north and south, most of all in summer and winter, so the timetable of Reykjavik is no substitute for that of your own city.
