How prayer times are calculated in the Maldives
Pages for Maldives use the Muslim World League method: Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon and Isha when the sun is 17° below the horizon. Times are shown in local time (UTC+5). In the capital Malé, Fajr is about 4:41 AM and Maghrib 6:19 PM around 21 June, while around 21 December Fajr comes at 4:52 AM and Maghrib at 6:00 PM. Daylight there ranges from 11 h 53 min to 12 h 22 min.
Our cities in the Maldives stretch from Nilandhoo in the west to Muli in the east, and from Dhihdhoo in the north to Hithadhoo in the south. With such a distance, the sun reaches its zenith in Muli about 3 minutes before Nilandhoo, even though the clock is the same everywhere. Day length also differs between north and south, especially in summer and winter, so the timetable of Malé cannot replace that of your own city.
