How prayer times are calculated in Mongolia
Pages for Mongolia use the Muslim World League method: Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon and Isha when the sun is 17° below the horizon. Times are shown in the local time of each city (UTC+7; UTC+8). In the capital Ulaanbaatar, Fajr is about 2:30 AM and Maghrib 8:55 PM around 21 June, whereas around 21 December Fajr comes at 6:45 AM and Maghrib at 5:02 PM. Daylight there ranges from 8 h 23 min to 16 h 02 min.
Our cities in Mongolia stretch from Ölgii in the west to Choibalsan in the east, and from Sühbaatar in the north to Dalandzadgad in the south. With such a distance, the sun reaches its zenith in Choibalsan about 98 minutes before Ölgii, which is one reason the country uses several time zones. Day length also varies between north and south, most of all in summer and winter, so the timetable of Ulaanbaatar is no substitute for that of your own city.
