How prayer times are calculated in Tanzania

Pages for Tanzania use the Muslim World League method: Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon and Isha when the sun is 17° below the horizon. Times are shown in local time (UTC+3). In the capital Dodoma, Fajr is around 5:04 AM and Maghrib 6:49 PM around 21 December, while around 21 June Fajr comes at 5:31 AM and Maghrib at 6:32 PM. Daylight there ranges from 11 h 46 min to 12 h 29 min.

Our cities in Tanzania stretch from Kigoma in the west to Mtwara in the east, and from Mutukula in the north to Tingi in the south. With such a distance, the sun reaches its zenith in Mtwara about 42 minutes before Kigoma, even though the clock is the same everywhere. Day length also varies between north and south, most of all in summer and winter, so the timetable of Dodoma is no substitute for that of your own city.

Ramadan in Tanzania

During Ramadan 1448 AH (expected on 8 February 2027), the fast in Dodoma lasts roughly 13 h 32 min at the start of the month and 13 h 20 min at the end, with imsak at 5:19 AM and iftar at 7:01 PM on the first day.
