How prayer times are calculated in Trinidad and Tobago
Times for Trinidad and Tobago use the Muslim World League method: Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon and Isha when the sun is 17° below the horizon. Times are shown in local time (UTC−4). In the capital Port of Spain, Fajr is around 4:27 AM and Maghrib 6:30 PM around 21 June, whereas around 21 December Fajr comes at 5:03 AM and Maghrib at 5:49 PM. Daylight there ranges from 11 h 30 min to 12 h 45 min.
Our cities in Trinidad and Tobago stretch from Point Fortin in the west to Scarborough in the east, and from Scarborough in the north to Siparia in the south. With such a distance, the sun reaches its zenith in Scarborough about 4 minutes before Point Fortin, even though the clock is the same everywhere. Day length also differs between north and south, most of all in summer and winter, so the timetable of Port of Spain is no substitute for that of your own city.
