How prayer times are calculated in Ukraine
Times for Ukraine use the Muslim World League method: Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon and Isha when the sun is 17° below the horizon. Times are shown in the local time of each city (UTC+2, UTC+3 in summer; UTC+3). In the capital Kyiv, Fajr is about 2:30 AM and Maghrib 9:13 PM around 21 June, whereas around 21 December Fajr comes at 5:55 AM and Maghrib at 3:56 PM. Daylight there ranges from 8 h to 16 h 27 min.
Our cities in Ukraine stretch from Uzhhorod in the west to Voznesenivka in the east, and from Novhorod-Siverskyi in the north to Yalta in the south. With such a distance, the sun reaches its zenith in Voznesenivka about 70 minutes before Uzhhorod, which is one reason the country uses several time zones. Day length also differs between north and south, especially in summer and winter, so the timetable of Kyiv is no substitute for that of your own city.
